Child Visa for Dependent Children

A Dependent Child Resident Visa is a type of visa that allows the dependent child of a New Zealand resident or citizen to live in New Zealand. This visa is intended for children under 24 years old and financially dependent on their parent or legal guardian who is a New Zealand citizen or resident. To be eligible, the child must meet certain criteria, such as being unmarried and having no children. Once granted, this visa allows the child to live, study, and work in New Zealand indefinitely.

If your dependent children were eligible for New Zealand residence under any other category but weren’t included in your residence application, INZ may ask you to explain the reason for this.

If your children were eligible for New Zealand residence under the Family Quota, Refugee Family Support Category, Samoa Quota Scheme or Pacific Access Category but weren’t included in your residence application, they’re not eligible for this visa.

Additionally, some children of New Zealand citizens or residents are New Zealand citizens by birth or descent. If your child is a citizen, they do not need to apply for residence.
