Study Options

Study in New Zealand – Your Options

A number of options are available to you if you are hoping to study in New Zealand. This includes a vast range of institutions to choose from as well as a huge selection of courses and qualifications.

Some of the options you have available include:

  • Universities – New Zealand’s universities consistently rank among the world’s best. The country also ranks highly on quality of life indexes. In addition, you’ll get an internationally recognised qualification as well as the skills you need to put your career on the path to success. Some of the country’s world-class universities include The University of Auckland, AUT University, Lincoln University, Massey University, and The University of Waikato.
  • Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs) – ITPs focus on hands-on experience and practical skills as much as qualifications. This means you’ll be ready to work as soon as you graduate from a New Zealand ITP. A vast range of courses are available in just about every industry.
  • Private Training Establishments (PTEs) – unlike ITPs which are publicly funded, PTEs are private organisations recognised as educational establishments in New Zealand. A range of qualifications are available in the more than 700 PTEs that exist. The subject areas include: business and technology; animation and game design; tourism; food and hospitality; commercial aviation; and more.
  • Learn English – a range of English language courses are also available. They will help you gain an internationally recognised qualification and can lead to further education or other opportunities both here in New Zealand and elsewhere.
  • Schools – New Zealand’s school system is among the best in the world, particularly in key subjects like maths, literacy, and science. Your child will, therefore, get a fantastic education at a NZ school. Primary schools are for children aged five to 10, intermediate schools are for 11 and 12 year olds, and secondary schools are for 13 to 18 year olds.
