New Zealand’s stable and growing economy provides an unmatched balance between business and lifestyle. This makes New Zealand the right choice to invest and live in. The Active Investor Plus visa also known as ‘Golden visa‘ allows investors to contribute to New Zealand’s economy while offering a straightforward pathway to residency.
The Active Investor Plus Visa operates under two investment categories, each with specific requirements:
Applications are assessed by immigration officers specialising in business immigration. Currently, Immigration New Zealand estimates that 80% of applications will receive an Approval in Principle (AIP) within five months.
Once issued with an AIP, applicants have six months to transfer and invest their funds in New Zealand. A work visa can also be granted to the principal applicant to assist with the fund transfer and investment process.
You can include your partner and dependent children (aged 24 and under) in your visa application. If your partner wishes to travel with you prior to visa approval, they may apply for their own visitor visa, and dependent children can apply for student visas.
Investors can apply for permanent residence after three years if investing under the Growth category or five years if investing under the Balanced category. There is no English-language requirement for this visa category. Additionally, a one-off six-month extension may be granted if funds are not invested within the initial timeframe.
To qualify, investments must meet the criteria prescribed by Immigration New Zealand (INZ). Below is a summary of both categories:
Growth Category: Minimum investment of NZ$5 million. Acceptable investments include direct investments or managed funds.
Balanced Category: Minimum investment of NZ$10 million. Acceptable investments include direct investments, managed funds, listed equities, philanthropy, bonds, or property developments.
The value of investments is determined in NZD when they are made and can include associated fees such as management or transaction costs.
For detailed information on acceptable investments and required evidence, please visit the official website of Immigration New Zealand.
Growth Category: 36 months from the date all acceptable investments are completed.
Balanced Category: 60 months from the date all acceptable investments are completed.
